Cllr Kuldip Sahota was elected Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council in May 2011, after serving ten years on the Council.
He has lived in the Borough for more than 48 years and has started up and run a number of successful businesses ranging from a hotel in the US to shops, a car park and a medical supplies business.
Born in India, Kuldip moved to Telford aged 14 and went to Hadley Secondary School. On leaving school, he joined Telford manufacturer GKN Sankey where he worked for 15 years, while gaining further qualifications at evening classes at Telford College of Arts and Technology.
In the mid 1980s Kuldip became an entrepreneur starting up a number of different successful businesses, mainly in Telford and Shropshire.
He was first elected as a parish councillor in 2000 and a year later was elected to Telford & Wrekin serving the borough’s Malinslee ward.
Kuldip has also served as Chair of Great Dawley Parish Council and as a member of the West Mercia Police Authority from 2007 until 2011 at the same time he was Chair of Telford and Wrekin Policing Board. Kuldip is also on the Board of Governors of Wolverhampton University and Chair of their Audit Committee. Married with two sons, his pastimes include reading Shakespeare and Indian poetry and jogging.
