Dawley Urban District Council Coat of Arms
I came across a letter pertaining to a coat of arms belonging to Dawley Urban District Council. On closer inspection of this letter I read that the coat of arms had three shields on it, which alluded to the three parishes of St Luke’s, St Leonard’s and The Holy Trinity in the District of Dawley, also a crowned demi triton winding a conch horn commemorating Captain Matthew Webb. I thought this was wonderful and that people might be interested in it. I dug a bit deeper and found that the coat of arms was purchased for Dawley Urban District Council in 1956, by The Ever Ready Ltd. Which incidentally began manufacturing in Hinksay Rd, Dawley in 1956? Unfortunately this coat of arms can no longer be used, because Dawley Urban District Council was abolished in 1974.
