Great Dawley Town Council is announcing its plans for a new public toilet facility in Dawley. The Town Council unanimously agreed for the development of the project which will see public toilets return to the town.
The Town Council has been asked by members of the public, business and market holders to replace the previously demolished toilets on New Street. These toilets were demolished due to the poor condition of the building which would have cost around £50,000 to refurbish.
Great Dawley Town Council have considered a number of options and a potential site has now been identified. The Town Council are now working with local partners and supplier to agree the best overall solution for residents and visitors, pending consent from the Planning Authority and completion of design and building works.
Councillor Shaun Davies, Chair, said ‘The Town Council understood the reasons for the old toilet block to be demolished and know this was a tough decision to make for all parties involved, but at the time was the right one.’
I am really pleased that this project is now moving forward for the benefit of residents and visitors, especially our elderly residents who visit to High Street and Friday Market.’
Councillor Jane Pinter, Mayor of Great Dawley Town Council, said ‘The Town Council have received a lot of feedback from local residents since the old toilet block was demolished, asking for us to replace the public toilets, I know that this is something that the residents of the Town want to see return’.
It is anticipated that that the Town Council will develop plans and complete a further consultation with residents during the Summer 2017 and if the relevant approval is granted, the public toilet building program will commence as a priority after this.
In the meantime, Great Dawley Town Council has a Community Toilet Scheme in place whereby members of the public can access toilet facilities at the following business premises (during opening hours):
• Dawley Town Hall
• Christian Centre
