Major consultation on planned Southwater developments
Published on 31 October 2011 by Telford & Wrekin Council
A major public consultation will be held in Telford town centre to reveal details of key developments that are planned as part of the ongoing £250m regeneration of the Southwater area.
The consultation will take place in Southwater Square next to Meeting Point House on November 11 all day and the morning of November 12.
There will be an opportunity for residents to see the revised first phase programme of works for Southwater including what buildings will be built over the next three years.
Leisure developer Citygrove will be showcasing the designs for an 11 screen cinema, hotel and restaurants and the Council will be revealing plans for a multi storey car park to support this exciting leisure development – prior to the submission of a detailed planning application in December.
This follows the announcement last month that Cineworld is to be the anchor tenant in the Southwater development. Cineworld have now given board approval to the Telford scheme and are working with Citygrove on detailed designs for the cinema.
As part of the public consultation, Telford & Wrekin Council will also be asking for feedback on the plans to deliver significant enhancements to the box road around Telford Shopping Centre.
This will include making the box road two way with the aim of breaking down barriers to movement for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles around the town centre.
Telford & Wrekin Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “The consultation will provide an opportunity for people to see what the mixed use leisure development will look like and will also highlight some of the exciting announcements we will be making in the coming months.
“Council staff will also be on hand to explain the reasoning behind our plan to make the box road two way and we will be interested to hear people’s feedback.
“The Southwater development is a hugely exciting one for Telford and will result in Telford town centre having a vibrant bustling heart.”
The Southwater development is a partnership between Telford & Wrekin Council, the Southwater Event Group and the Homes and Communities Agency.
