Telford and Wrekin Council to consult Dawley residents on market future 29 July

Press release provided on the 7th July

Council to consult Dawley residents on market future.

Telford & Wrekin Council will be consulting people in the centre of Dawley for the next two Fridays on what local people want for the future of the town’s historic market.

The council has been working towards returning the market to the High Street, after it moved to the Meadow Road car park last year to allow for regeneration works to take place.

Residents, visitors, market traders and local businesses will be surveyed on their views about the market – what it should sell, when it should trade and any other ideas they may have for improvement of the market.

The survey will form part of the council’s Your Views Matter series of consultations and responses will inform the development of a plan for the future of the market.

Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Co-operative Council and Partnership and chairman of Great Dawley Parish Council, said:

“I am very aware that there is a lot of interest in Dawley about the outcome of what happens to the market.

I am keen that the feedback the council gets is as representative as possible of the views of people who live, visit and trade in Dawley to ensure that we deliver the market in the place, time and style that they want it.

To ensure this happens, the council’s Community Engagement Team will be in Dawley for the next two Fridays – both at the market itself and in the town centre where we will be talking to local people about their ideas.”
